Tornado Devastates Greenfield, Iowa: Multiple Fatalities Confirmed Amid Widespread Midwest Storms
A powerful tornado struck Greenfield, Iowa, resulting in multiple fatalities as severe storms swept across the Midwest. The tornado caused widespread destruction, demolishing homes and businesses, smashing cars, and scattering debris throughout the town.
During a news briefing on Tuesday night, Iowa police confirmed the deaths but did not specify the number. Other states, including Nebraska, Illinois, and Wisconsin, also experienced tornadoes, heavy rainfall, and power outages.

Video footage from Iowa shows extensive devastation: flattened buildings, overturned cars, and damaged wind turbines. Greenfield, a town of 2,000 residents located about 55 miles from Des Moines, was the hardest hit.
The local hospital sustained damage, necessitating the transfer of a dozen injured individuals to other facilities. Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Alex Dinkla described a “good portion” of Greenfield as devastated. While the exact death toll remains unknown, Dinkla assured reporters that everyone in the town appears to be accounted for.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced plans to visit Greenfield on Wednesday morning to evaluate the damage firsthand.
